At 2 a.m., I log out of work, my eyes heavy and my body begging for rest. It’s a routine I’ve grown used to, one that repeats 10 to 15 times a month with grueling 12+ hour workdays. When I fill out my timecard, the double-digit hours initially feel like a win — but then the pangs of guilt set in.

What I consider a “productive week” often comes back to haunt me in high-definition clarity. I realized the rework I could have avoided if I’d stopped to think for five minutes or the mistakes I made because I was too tired to notice them. My body, still exhausted after nine hours of sleep, sends a clear message: it’s time to pause, rewind, and recharge.

Rest isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. A survey by Gartner found that proactive rest can increase productivity by 26%. That’s not just theory — it’s lived experience. When you’re on the other side, burnt out and stuck in inefficiency, the rest might feel like wasted time. But in reality, it’s the foundation for moving ahead faster and smarter.
